MOOMAW, OTHO A., LT COLONEL (Ret)
Age 90, of Alexandria, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at Alexandria Hospital.
Born March 8, 1913 near Rocky Point, Botetourt County, VA. to the late Nathan R. and Emma Houser Moomaw.
He was predeceased by brothers, Rufus, Wllllam and Benjamin and by sisters, Anne M. Page, Louise M. Page and Margaret M. Smith.
He is survived by brother-in-law, Garmon B. Smith of Greenville, S.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Buchanan High School In June 1928. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in June 1933 with a B.S Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Moomaw also received a commission of 2nd Lt. U.S. Army Reserve at this time. Upon graduation he was granted a fellowship by the Commonwealth of VA to study Fuel Engineering for 12 months. In June 1934, he received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engneering, with a major In "Fuel Engineering" and "Steam Electric Generation". He was called to active duty by the U.S. Army on April 30, 1935. Mr. Moomaw served in the Panama Canal Zone, European theater durlng World War II, and Korean Conflict. He retired at Ft. Meade, Md. on September 1, 1965. Most of his career was with Artillery. On January 20, 1966, he was employed by Potomac Electric Power Co. as a sales and service engineer. Mr. Moomaw retired from Potomac Electric Power on April 1, 1978.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Buchanan, Va. While Iiving in Arlington, Va. until 1992 he attended Cherrydale United Methodist Church.
He was a Master Mason and lifetime member of Hiram Gothic Lodge No. 81 AF & AM Germantown, Pa. He was also a lifetime member and past high priest of Cherrydale Royal Arch Chapter No. 3 Arlington, VA.
Visitation will be 9:00 A.M. June 17 2003 at Arlington Funeral Home, 3901 North Fairfax Drive, Arlington, Va. with burial following at 11:00 A.M., Arlington National Cemetery with military honors.
