Edna E. (nee, McIlroy) Mumaw Adams
Memorial services for Edna Elizabeth (nee, McIlroy) Mumaw Adams, 85, of Shaker Heights, will be 3 p.m. Friday at Garfield Memorial United Methodist Church, 3650 Lander Road, in Pepper Pike.
Mrs. Adams passed away Sept. 12, 2005, at University Hospitals of Cleveland surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Akron.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Edna was a graceful, vibrant and active woman, who enjoyed volunteering, travel and the arts. She avidly supported and regularly enjoyed performances at both The Cleveland Orchestra and The Cleveland Playhouse. Her greatest accomplishment came from the love she showed to family and friends alike.
She attended Ohio Wesleyan College at the age of 16. She married her childhood sweetheart, Kenneth H. Mumaw in 1940. When World War II started, she accompanied Ken to Texas for basic training and then to California before he shipped out to the South Pacific. They were married 44 years, until his death in 1984. Edna subsequently was married to Joseph Adams in 1986, until his death in 1990. She volunteered for numerous organizations including serving on her community's school board for 25 years, Goodwill Industries, and The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes. She was also an active member of the Intown Club, Music and Drama, Rotary, and Order of Eastern Star. She is already greatly missed by her family. Edna was generous, patriotic, glamorous, thoughtful, and inclusive to all she knew. All who knew Edna agree that the world is a much better place because she was here.
Mrs. Adams was the co-owner of the Mumaw family business for 60 years in Middlefield.
Survivors are her children and their spouses, Linda M. Hosler, Kenneth H. "Jack" Mumaw, and John H. Mumaw; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family suggests contributions be made to The Cleveland Playhouse, or The Cleveland Orchestra.
Arrangements are being handled by the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service in Middlefield.
