William Albert Kershner passed away on October 19, 2006 at his home in Upland, California, where he lived for 37 years.
Born September 8, 1922 in Dayton, Ohio to Walter and Margaret Kershner, he was 84 years old.
After graduating from Madeira High School outside Cincinnati in 1940, he entered the U.S. Navy. A veteran of World War II, he took part in eight major landings and was a Pearl Harbor survivor aboard the USS Tennessee. He received his Honorable Discharge as a Chief Boatswain Mate in 1946.
He married in 1950 to Wilma G. Lakes, his wife of 55 years. A graduate of Miami University at Oxford, Ohio in 1951, he pursued a career in Mechanical Engineering. As General Manager of the Huffy Bicycle plant in Azusa, he moved his family to California in 1960.
After retiring from the manufacturing industry, he was an active member of the Upland Host Lions Club for 16 years, serving as its President for two years in 1993 and 1994.
William is survived by his three children, Michael Kershner and wife Sandra, Deborah Kershner Laird, and Scott Kershner and wife Carmen; his three grandchildren, Jonathan Kershner, Rebecca Laird, and Kristen Laird; his sister Elaine Houk; and half sisters Carol Martz and Marty Hatfield.
His family and friends will fondly remember him in their thoughts and with love in their hearts. May he rest in peace.
