Mrs. E. B. Mumma
Grace Alice Mumma, daughter of Thomas J. and Nancy Teegarden was born Jan. 2, 1884, at Bethlehem, Iowa and departed this life May 2, 1956, in Yocum hospital at Chariton, Iowa. She was one of a family of nine children, five girls and four boys.
Her early life was spent in Bethlehem, Iowa. While a young lady she designed hats and operated her own millinery shop.
In her early childhood she became a member of the Methodist church and took an active part in church organizations. At the time of her death she was an active member of the Woman?s Society of Christian Service of the Chariton Methodist church.
She was married to Emanuel B. Mumma on March 18, 1902, and at that time moved to their farm near Clio, Iowa. The rest of her life was spent in Wayne County until she and her husband retired from the farm to Chariton in 1946.
To her family she was greatly devoted; she had a pleasing personality, was a loyal friend, a good, kind neighbor, and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church.
Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Harry L. Grange, Indianola, Iowa and three sons Kenneth of Aurora, Colo., William of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Keith of Allerton, Iowa, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. E. E. Laing, Russell, Iowa, Mrs. Edith Cooley, Corydon, Iowa, Mrs. Blanche Sollenbarger, Ft. Dodge, Iowa and Mrs. Gladys Buckworth, Corydon, Iowa and one brother, Roy Teegarden of Springfield, Mo. Three brothers preceded her death, Edgar, Arthur and Otis.
Funeral services were conducted Friday May 4, at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church at Corydon, Ia., by the Rev, Lester Hall of Chariton, and the Rev. R. T. White of Corydon. Interment was in the Corydon Cemetery, Beardsley Funeral Home in charge of services.
