Robert Canada Mumma died last Friday at his home in Jamestown, Michigan at the age of 59. A heart ailment caused his death. Services were held at the Skindingsrude and Lein funeral home, Wednesday with burial in Richmond cemetery. Masonic services were conducted by members of St. John Lodge F. and A. M.
Whether a mere acquaintance or a friend Bob was one of those unforgettable individuals. It was due both to his rugged, hearty personality as well as to the genuineness of his affection for his former intimates and the community as a whole. Bob was always loyal to Whitewater and could count on a heart-warming reception when ever he returned. He was one of those individuals who came frequently to mind, his death means a loss to many outside the family circle.
Bob was known over a wide area for his athletic abilities. He starred in high school football, basketball and then added to his reputation at the College where he played fullback. He was a member of the famous Co. C cage team that won game after game and met but two teams they could not beat. Bob was a sharpshoter on that team and won many a close game with his accuracy.
Robert C. Mumma was born in Kirksville, Missouri on April 15, 1890, the son of Dr. and Mrs. George Mumma. He married Eunice Gage in 1915. They spent their married life in Whitewater, Janestown, Duluth, and Jamestown, working in connection with milk products. At the time of his death, Mr. Mumma was with the Carnation Dairy. He had been in poor health for the past year with a heart ailment.
Surviving are his wife, and two sons, Frederick, of New Richmond, Wis., and William, of Lisbon, Ia.; one daughter, Mrs. Richard Hills, Iowa City, Ia., and one sister, Mrs. Winifred Hansen, San Francisco, Calif.
He was a member of Trinity Lodge F. and A. M. of Duluth; the Oddfellows of Door, Michigan; Order of Eastern Star, Burnipo, Michigan and was a member of the Methodist Church.
