David and Margaret adopted two boys, Lester and Kenneth. Kenneth was the illegitimate son of David's sister, Alice Burnetta Mumma. Later, Alice married around 1920, but Kenneth remained and was raised by his uncle and aunt.
DNA testing has confirmed that Lester was adopted and he was not fathered by a male with the MUMMA surname. Lester's genetic father has not been determined.

Kenneth J. Mumma, 98, died Friday morning, August 25, 2017 at Homewood at Plum Creek. He was the loving husband of 38 years to Elizabeth Slevin Mumma who died in 1990.
Ken was born July 27, 1919 and was a 1939 graduate of Eichelberger High School. He served his country in World War II from 1942-1945 reaching the rank of Technical Sergeant, Ordnance Department in the United States Army. Ken was awarded the Bronze Star in 1945 for meritorious achievement in connection with three separate operations against the enemy in the Pacific Theatre.
Ken was an electrician who last worked for General Telephone Electronics in York. He served as a Civil Service Commissioner for Penn Township in the 1970's and as Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. Lodge #763 from 1993-94. After retirement, he was an avid craftsman. In his earlier pre-war and post-war years, Ken played the tenor saxophone for the Lyric Band and other smaller ensembles when needed. Prophetically, the song he most remembered playing was "When Irish Eyes Were Smiling."
He will be greatly missed by his children, E. David Mumma (Debra), Susan Beckner (Max), and Scott Mumma (Laura); his grandchildren, Bryn (Kuang), Shea (Hannah), Molly (Brian), Meaghan, Ben, Kate, and Anna; as well as his four great-grandsons, Kale, Bryce, Rowan, and Lyell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover with The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent's Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
