Catherine Joan Grable passed away at her home, MorningStar of Sparks, with her family by her side on January 28, 2017, at the age of 86. Catherine was born and raised in St. Claire Shores, Michigan. Born to James Forbes of Amble, England and Elizabeth Larke of Ohio. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage, proudly wearing the Forbes tartan kilt and the Coat of Arms, "Grace Me Guide". Catherine is survived by her son, Mark Mumma, of Garden Grove, CA, and his wife Teresa; her daughter, Claudia Johnson, of Janesville, CA, and her husband Mark; daughter-in-law, Janet Mumma, of Citrus Heights, CA; 5 grandchildren: Chris VanLaarhoven of Temecula, CA, and his wife Jodie; Marcie DeHart of Long Beach, CA, and her husband Matt; Hannah Rose Johnson of San Francisco, CA; Katy Richardson of Citrus Heights, CA; Amanda Kate Wartgow of Reno, Nevada, and her husband, Kaleb; and 5 great grandchildren with one on the way: Christian VanLaarhoven, Jade VanLaarhoven, Madison DeHart, Mason DeHart, Jeptha Wartgow, and grandson Wartgow due to arrive April. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Arthur Mumma; husband, Gene Rhodes; husband, Wayne Grable; son, David Forbes Mumma; and 5 siblings. She and her husband, Dave Mumma, came to California from Michigan and eventually settled in Folsom, California, where she was an active member at the Trinity Episcopal Church for nearly 50 years. She loved singing; singing in the choir or just humming around the house. Wayne and Catherine started the group called the Geriatrics where they sang and entertained at various Nursing homes. She was also a part of the Theater Group at the Folsom Lake Estates mobile home park, singing and putting on skits. She spent her working life with the Cordova, Folsom, San Juan, and Sacramento school systems, eventually retiring as Director of Personnel for the Sacramento County Schools. In her spare time, she loved to paint landscapes. She painted the ocean, mountains, streams, lakes, and rivers. Best guess is nearly 50 paintings spread across the globe. The family will be gathering in the spring for a Celebration of Life. If you would like to send a card, please mail to 716-800 Blickenstaff Road, Janesville, CA 96114. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Folsom Trinity Episcopal Church in memory. We will forever miss you, Momma and Grandma!
