Oscar W. (Caddy) Rankin, 83, local barber for more than 40 years, was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m. Monday on arrival at the Huntington County Hospital after his return there from the Indiana Medical Center, Indianapolis, where he was taken Monday morning for examination. He had been ill the last five weeks and seriously ill since November 12. He had been a patient at the hospital since November 15.
Mr. Rankin was born September 17, 1875, at St. Joe, Ill., to C. H. and Hattie Rankin. His marriage was to Minnie Belle Mumma September 1, 1902. She died June 4, 1954.
Mr. Rankin had worked more than 40 years at the same chair in the former Trovinger Barber Shop, now the Fulton & Bonham Barber Shop. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, the Barber's Union, and Lime City Aerie, No. 823, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. William (Myrtle) McMillen and Mrs. John (Edna) Owens, this city; Mrs. Allen (Ethel) Murphy, Gary, and Mrs. Alfred (Audrey) Judy, Converse; two sons, Larry Rankin, Fremont, Ohio, and Forrest Rankin, Lima, Ohio; the stepmother, Mrs. C. H. Rankin, 96, residing at the Jefferson Sanitarium, this city; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a brother, Arley Rankin, Santa Cruz, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Pearl Jackson, Glendale, Calif. The parents, a son, Warren, and two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Schulz and Helen Rankin are dead.
Friends may call at the Bailey Mortuary after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Bailey Mortuary with the Rev. J. Maurice Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
