Raymond KALBFLEISCH, 88
Raymond KALBFLEISCH, 88, of Goshen, Ind., died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at his home.
Mr. KALBFLEISCH was born July 11, 1912, in Levering, the son of Jacob and Joanna (SMITH) KALBFLEISCH. He graduated from Pellston High School in 1931, and in 1933 entered military service at Fort Brady at Sault Ste. Marie.
He served in North Africa and Italy during World War II and in Japan and Korea during the Korean War, both times as an electronics technician in the Air Force Weather Service. He retired in 1961 at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He also worked as a weather observer and radio operator for the Federal Aviation Administration at Sexton Mountain, Ore.
After retiring, he graduated from North Central Michigan College in 1963 and from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. He was employed as a librarian for Farwell and Gaylord schools. Then came 12 years of work as librarian at North Central Michigan College before retiring again 1979.
On April 5, 1969, he married Mary Louise MUMAW of Petoskey in Goshen, Ind., and she survives. They lived in Levering and then later moved to Howard Road in Petoskey. In 1996, they moved from Petoskey to Goshen.
Mr. KALBFLEISCH was a member of the local Mennonite Church in the Petoskey area and of the Yellow Creek Mennonite Church in Indiana. He was also a member of the Straits Area Amateur Radio Club, the ACE Genealogy Society in Boyne City and the Little Traverse Historical Society. He was the author of several genealogies and local histories of Northern Michigan, and enjoyed
photography and amateur radio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lester J.; and one sister, Christine E. TENAGLIA.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen, Ind. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Yoder-Culp in Indiana with the Rev. Wes Bontreger officiating.
Local services include visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the Charles G. Parks Funeral Home in Petoskey, with funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Maple River Mennonite Church in Brutus. Pastor Jim Gerber will officiate and burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Petoskey.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Greencroft Foundation or Yellow Creek Mennonite Church.
