Question posed by Ellen Copper
-------------------------
David R. Mumaugh (1841-1893) s/o William P. Mumaugh and Sarah Rees
mar 1863 1) Charity/Charlotte Osmon 1841-1882
mar 1885 2) Maggie Miller 1858-1943
Children (all from Charity):
Rosa D. b ca 1864
Fanny A. b ca 1865
George R. 1868-1931
Richard E. 1870-1931
Della B. 1874-1941 (mar a Patten/Patton, possible first name Frank)
Maggie Miller Mumaugh moved to Canton by the 1900 census, and died there.
George R. was in Akron by about 1925, Richard moved to West Virginia. Della died in California. Nothing more is known about Rosa or Fanny, but they
were alive in 1893 as David's obituary mentioned 3 daughters and 2 sons,
but not by name. Although George had several children live to maturity,
their obituaries do not indicate spouses or children, so I feel that George
probably has no living descendants. I have been in touch with Richard's
descendants, and I know quite a bit about them. I know nothing about
Della's spouse or if she had children. She and Frank (I think it is them)
were in Riverside, California for the 1930 census but had no children
living with them. Have not located them earlier.
1. I need to find David and Charity in the 1880 census. In 1870 they were
living with David's parents in Bath Twp, Allen Co. Charity's cemetery
records (Woodlawn) indicate she died in Lima, as did David. 1880 indexes by
the Ohio Genealogical Society and the transcriptions by the LDS church do
not show David in Allen County. Has anyone located him in 1880?
2. What happened to Rosa and Fanny? Charity's death resulted in an Orphan
Court record naming the 3 younger children, but the only mention of these
older ones is the 1870 census and David's obituary. I assume the older
girls must have been married by 1882.
Appearing in the Akron area was another couple of a similar age to or
slightly younger than George and his wife, they were Louis and Crystal
Mumaugh. Does anyone know if they were related or just another case of
someone who uses the same spelling of the surname?
I'm descended from one of David's brothers, and I'm just trying to fill in
a bit more on this part of the family. I already have a lot of material on
most of the other children of William and Sarah, and a lot on William and
Sarah's ancestry.
