ALLEGED DRIVER FACES HEARING IN GIRL'S DEATH

J. Monroe Christley, 35, of Roanoke, charged with being the driver of a bus which collided with an automobile Saturday night on the Valley Pike, fatally injuring Jean Mumaw, 9, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mumaw, will be given a hearing June 9 Commonwealth's Attorney William H. Logan of Shenandoah County said yesterday.
Charges of reckless driving and operating a public vehicle without a chauffer's license will be brought against Christley at the proceeding, Logan said. The hearing will be held in the Shenandoah Coiunty Trial Justice Court. Logan said Coroner H. W. Miller will conduct an investigation the same day.
The bus struck the Mumaw car as it attempted to swing back into the line of traffic after trying to pass another car, State troopers C.L. Fuller and E. E. Kizer said.
FATHER IN HOSPITAL
Charles Mumaw of Shenandoah Caverns, father of the dead child, was in Harrisonburg Hospital yesterday, suffering from a fractured pelvis. Helen Smight of Quicksburg, another occupant of the Mumaw car, also is confined to the hospital with a fractured shoulder.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Polk of near Mount Jackson were reported recovering yesterday at their homes from injuries received when the bus struck their car after colliding with the mumaw automobile.
Funeral services for the Mumaw child will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the home.
