Catharine Omelia, daughter of John and Susan Mumma. was born near the Jacob Rice farm 5 miles north of Mt. Morris, Ill., on August 11, 1848. and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Etta Allison in Assumption. Ill., Jan. 23. 1935. aged 86 years 5 months and 12 days. At the age of 2 years she, with her parents, moved to the village of Adeline where she resided one year, and at the age of three she went with her uncle and aunt. Henry and Catherine Bowers, in Chambers Grove, on the farm now occupied by John Bowers. It was here she spent her childhood days, attended the Chambers Grove school, and grew to young womanhood.
She was united in marriage to Anthony Omella February 26, 1871. He preceded her In death May 25, 1925. To this union four children were born, one son and three daughters. two of whom survive -- Etta Allison of Assumption and John J. Omelia of Anaheim, Calif. Susan, an infant, daughter, passed away Sept. 17, 1877 and Mrs. Mildred Herrington was killed May 27. 1934, in an automobile accident in Harvey. The deceased also leaves 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Harley Ollison of New York City, Capt. Dale Allison of Boonsville. Mo., and Mrs. Oma Rammel of Assumption, and Ruth, John and Catharine Rammel of Assumption and Helen and Jackie Harrington of Harvey; also two brothers, S. W. Mumma of Forreston and Frank L. Mumma of Rockford, and a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends In Assumption and Forreston.
She resided In Forreston until the year 1916 when she and her husband moved to Assumption, where she resIded until her passing. While In Forreston she was a member of Rebekah degree lodge162 and united with the M. E. church in Assumption in the year 1928. She attended services and Sunday school when her health permitted. She carried her weight of years with the sunshine of youth -- always young In spirit. As the selling sun of her life was fast approaching the horizon and would soon pass out, it never lost its brilliance to her, and In Its shadows she patiently and bravely, without murmur or complaint, met the summons: "It is finished; it Is enough: come home," and passed Into the valley of the shadow of death, rich In having been permitted to live more than four score years.
Funeral services were conducted last Saturday. Jan. 29. 1.30 p.m. from the S. W. Mumma home and 2 p.m. from the Lutheran church. Rev. Edwin J. Johnson, officiating. The choir song three appropriate selections and the pastor spoke on the theme, "She Gave Her Best." The pallbearers were Jacob Fisher, A. C. Gross, Paul Beebe. Bert Timmer. J. E.
