Mary E. Moomaw - (Northern Virginia Daily) View/Sign Guest Book
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Moomaw, 82, of New Market passed away Monday morning, January 5, 2009 at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
She was born October 3, 1926 in Shenandoah County and was a daughter of the late John and Lydia Evelyn Garber Prophet.
Mrs. Moomaw was a retired employee of the former Aileen, Inc. of New Market. She had also been employed by Mount Jackson Food Lion as well as the New Market 7-Eleven.
She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Market Vol. Fire Dept. and was an avid bowler. She was a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market but had been attending the Valley Central United Church of Christ near New Market.
Mrs. Moomaw's husband, Berlin E. Moomaw, Jr., died Feb. 13, 1977.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy (Dottie) Burkholder and her husband, Harold of New Market and Elizabeth Gum of New Market; two grandchildren, Tina Flick and husband Jeff of Broadway and Matt Gum and his wife, Mel of New Market; three great grandchildren, Austin Gum, Dillon Flick and Kaity Gum; a step great granddaughter, Tabitha Lantz; a sister, Willie Jo Miller of New Market; a niece, Lisa Miller of New Market and a sister-in-law, Janet Prophet of New Market.
She was predeceased by her brother, Waldo Prophet and her son-in-law, Gerald Gum, Jr.
Pastor Jeffrey Sonafelt and the Rev. James Burke will conduct a funeral service 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Reformation Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, New Market.
The family will receive friends 7 till 8 Tuesday evening at the Theis Funeral Home of New Market. Friends may also call at the home of Liz Gum at anytime.
