ORRVILLE - Carl W. Moomaw, 75, a well-known businessman of Orrville, died unexpectedly Monday, April 12, 2004, at his workshop on East Pine Street in Orrville.
Private funeral services will be held Thursday, April 15, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville, with Pastor Walter Jordon officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
There will be no calling hours.

He was born Sept. 17, 1928, at Smithville, the son of Paul Sr. and Hazel (Hartzler) Moomaw. He married Theda Bowers Moomaw on Aug. 10, 1947, and she survives.
Carl was born and raised in the Smithville area and attended Smithville High School while working at a local service garage. His mechanical ability prevailed and he worked at several Orrville service garages and he became the service manager at Chevrolet Garage in Orrville.
He began working at Johnson Hardware in 1953 and became a partner in the store in 1960; and in 1967, he purchased the store from Lee Johnson.
In the following years, the store developed a plumbing and water softener business as well as a water well drilling service, which became widely known.
Carl retired from the active management of the store in 1999 and has devoted his retirement years to collecting and restoring hand- and powered-water pumps. His vast collection of pumps remain at the store and his son Bob now manages the hardware store. Carl was the president of the compan
He was volunteer fireman with the Orrville Fire Department for 22 years and retired from the department in 1971 as an assistant fire chief.
He is a member of the Orrville Chamber of Commerce and a member of Orrville Augsburg Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Theda; a son, Robert (Mary) Moomaw of Orrville; two grandchildren, Jeff Moomaw and Christine (Tim) Snyder, both of Orrville; brothers, Donald Moomaw of Wooster and Doyle Moomaw of Smithville; and sisters, Geraldine (Hilary) Marthey of Orrville and Jeanne (Thomas) Chapman of Jeromesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Paul Moomaw Jr., Ray Moomaw, and James Moomaw.
