Dr. John R. Mumma, age 94, passed away at home on April 23, 2022. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Wampler) (deceased); dear father of Melanie Wightman (Michael), Cynthia Goellner (Richard), and Elizabeth Sabransky (Tim); grandfather of Geoff, Teegan, Emma and Jack; great-grandfather to William and Benjamin; son of the late Evelyn (nee Reddig) and Paul F. Mumma; preceded in death by his brother, Harry. John was an Eagle Scout, and after graduating from high school at the age of 17, immediately started college at Pennsylvania State University. After two semesters, John enlisted in the U. S. Navy during WWII. John served as a hospital corpsman for two years and then returned to Penn State. In 1953 John graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He reentered military service as an officer in the Army Dental Corps, and two years later went into private practice. John practiced dentistry in Ashtabula, Ohio for fifty years where he lived and raised his family until his wife?s passing. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. John moved to Lakewood, Ohio in 2006 where he was a dedicated member and served as President of the Lakewood Kiwanis Club. John enjoyed music, golfing, gardening, service to others, and the company of family and many friends. The family will be having a private memorial service and interment will be in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to an institution dedicated to the education, health, or welfare of children.
