Nellie's parents were Martin Albert Mumma and his wife Martha Josephine [Hobbs] Owen. Her mother, Martha, was born on 09 Jul 1863 in Marion, Harrison, Missouri and died on 24 Jun 1924 in Anderson, Kansas, at age 61 years. Martha and Martin were married on 26 Dec 1880, in Harrison County, Kansas and gave birth to 6 girls and 7 boys. It is believed that Nellie was born in Bethany, Harrison, Missouri.
Nellie Jane Owen died after fighting for her life from 21 Dec 1929 until the 24 Dec 1929. She had chronic nephritis for about one year when it became acute and took her life. Glomerulonephritis, or chronic nephritis, is a kidney disease that results in damage to the organ. Its cause can be due to a variety of factors, particularly issues with the immune system. Causes of this type of chronic kidney inflammation in individual cases, however, are often unknown.
For some more information about Mrs. Nellie Jane Owen, please visit her husband's memorial, James Washington Owen.
While Nellie died in the town of Twin Falls, Idaho, on 24 Dec 1929. Her husband died in the town of Jerome, Jerome, Idaho, on 10 March 1936. It could be that they had left Jerome to be closer to medical attention for his allying wife. The medical problems may have been brought about by the recent pregnancy and stillborn birth of their son Dale M. Owen
