Civil War Service of Reason F. Mumma
Residence Decatur IN. Enlisted on 8/28/1862 as a Private. On 8/28/1862 he mustered into "H" Co. IN 89th Infantry for a 3 year enlistment. He was in several battles, taken prisoner and paroled. He was Mustered Out on 7/19/1865 at Mobile, AL
Rezin Mumma kept a diary during his enlistment in the Civil War. His brother, George Washington Mumma, also kept a diary. Both diaries, about 50-60 pages each in length, are available at the Decatur Public Library, Decatur, Indiana. Both diaries contain very little genealogical information other than a 1 page biographic sketch of Rezin and 3 pages for George Washington. The books primarily record each of their daily observations during the War.

Reason F. Mumma, a well known
civil war veteran, sprang a surprise
on his family and his friends by
returning home Sunday evening, bring-
ing with him a bride, who was Miss
Catherine Rush of near Bluffton. Mr.
and Mrs Mumma are now at home at his
residence on North Eleventh street,
where their friends will give them an
old-fashioned charivari this evening.
The Bluffton News says, under date
of Saturday:
"A marriage license was issued here
here this afternoon to Reason F. Mumma,
a farmer of Adams county, and Miss
Catherine Rush, of this county, a
daughter of Robert Sibert."

R.F MUMMA DIED HERE AT HOME OF DAUGHTER

DEATH OF AGED DECATUR MAN OCCURRED AT HOME OF MRS. BELLE HARDIN

R. F. Mumma, 79 years old, of Decatur, died of paralysis Saturday night at 6:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Belle Hardin, of Bluffton. He was a retired farmer and was a veteran of the Civil War.
He suffered a light paralytic stroke at Decatur on Sept. 13, after which he came to Bluffton to the home of his daughter. On Sept. 20 he suffer two serious strokes, which caused his condition to become extremely critical.
Born on July 9, 1843, in Ohio, he came to Adams County when a small child. He was married at Decatur to Ellen Steele. Thirty-four years ago Mr. and Mrs. Mumma moved to the southern part of the United States, where they remained sixteen years. To their union eleven children were born. Mrs. Mumma died five years ago Mr. Mumma becoming later married to Catherine Rush who survives.
The surviving children are L. F. Mumma, Spencer; Mrs. Milia Euth and Mrs. Sadie Elishouse, Denver; Mrs. Hardin, Bluffton; Mrs. Emma Flynn, Lindon; Mrs. Mary Cook, George Mumma and R. E. Mumma, Decatur. Two brothers and one sister survive ? John H. Mumma, Miss Ermilla Mumma and Rebecca Harkless, all of Decatur.
Mr. Mumma was a member of the Sam Henry Post G. A. R., of Decatur. In the war he served three years with Co.E, 189th Volunteer Infantry. Funeral services will be held from the Decatur U.B. church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in the Decatur cemetery.
