Mae Evelyn Mumaw, 95, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021 in Medina. She was born May 25, 1926, in Beemer, Nebraska to the late Albert and Katie (Roth) Nitzsche.
Mae Mumaw was a beloved mother and grandmother and known as 'Aunt Mae' to many others. She grew up as a farmer's daughter in North Dakota as the second of five siblings. After teaching in a one room schoolhouse in the Ozarks, she moved to Cleveland to pursue a nursing degree. There she met and married, James G. Mumaw, in 1962. They resided in Olmsted Township, until 1968 when they moved to a farm in Holmes County. Mae worked as a nurse, being Holmes County's school nurse and spent time in geriatric nursing as Director of Nursing for Castle Nursing Home in Millersburg. She also served as a Head Start teacher. Mae's husband, Jim passed away in 2000. In 2004, Mae moved to Medina to live with her daughter, Julie and her family.
Mae is survived by her son, James 'Jim' (Loree) Mumaw; her daughter, Julie (Mitch) Brown; grandchildren, Kinsey (Caleb) Ernshaw, Kali (Jordan Wilson) Mumaw, Josh and Jennifer Brown and her sister, Opal Ripley.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, James G. Mumaw and her siblings, Dale Nitzsche, Willard Nitzsche and Lois Selzer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. A celebration of Mae's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Harvest Presbyterian Church, 1095 E. Reagan Pkwy., Medina and Dr. David Wallover will officiate. A private family burial will be held later at Nashville United Methodist Church Cemetery in Nashville, Ohio.
