ST. PARIS - John T. Goodson, age 79, of Saint Paris passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana. Born on August 16, 1936 in Champaign County, he was a son of the late Charles and Rachel (Mumma) Goodson. He married Barbara Atchison Holbrook on November 29, 1968 and she survives. He is also survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Penny and Russ Skinner of Saint Paris, Teresa and Gene Mathews of Dry Ridge, KY, and Sonya and Brett Stonerock of Saint Paris. He was a proud grandfather of five grandsons, David (Jamie) Noreikas of Urbana, Joey (Ashlee) Skinner of Urbana, Chaz (Nikki) Mathews of Dry Ridge, KY, Blake (Lee) Mathews of Dry Ridge, KY, Jamie (Jeanette) Stonerock of Englewood, and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Carol Goodson, a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Jack Williamson, and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Goodson, all of Saint Paris. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Goodson. John was a 1954 graduate of Concord High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves 321st, Urbana. He was a member of the Myrtle Tree Baptist Church and a former employee of the Champaign County Highway Dept. John loved walking, mushroom hunting, camping, fishing and woodworking. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the ATKINS-SHIVELY FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio with Reverend Robert Plummer of the Myrtle Tree Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Myrtle Tree Baptist Church, P.O. Box 687, Saint Paris, Ohio 43072.
