Wilda Jean Mumma, 89, went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2016. Jean was born in Snyder, Texas, on October 13, 1926 to William Lee (Buddy) and Trula Pitts. During her childhood the family moved to Roswell, New Mexico, and then to southern California.
In 1945 she married her sweetheart, newly-commissioned Naval Ensign Bill Mumma in Riverside, California. During his military career the family lived all over the United States and even in Oslo, Norway.
After her husband?s retirement the couple moved to Saluda, where they joined Urbanna United Methodist Church and Jean became active in the Middlesex County Woman?s Club. Following Bill?s death, Jean returned to Virginia Beach where she extended her love of flowers with the Lake Smith Terrace Garden Club, becoming a state-accredited flower show judge.
Jean is survived by her brother, Neal Pitts of Sacramento, California; her two daughters, Linda (Bill) Goller of Saint Augustine, Florida, and Susie (Don) Saburn of Forest; three grandchildren, Tim, Jon, and Mary Beth Saburn; and four great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Taylor, Charlie, and Will Saburn.
She was predeceased in 1990 by her husband, Captain W.L. (Bill) Mumma, USN Ret., and by her cat, Romeo, the companion of her last years.
There was a private interment at Middlesex Memorial Cemetery in Urbanna. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Westminster-Canterbury, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of one?s choice. Arrangements by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda.
