Cornelius was the youngest son of Jacob Mumma and Mary Blessing. He is not buried in the family plot in Woodland Cemetery because he died before it was opened for burials.
He is buried In Fort McKinley Cemetery. His 18 year old 1st cousin, Jerome W. Blessing, was buried next to him in 1851. Cornelius is identified in the 1965 plot plan of the cemetery which was created by the city of Dayton when Free Pike road was widened and many people had to be disinterred.
