JOHN ED MEWMAW
John Ed Mewmaw, son of William L. and Amanda Mewmaw, was born near Payson in Adams County, Ill., April 20, 1868 and departed this life at the Axtell hospital at Princeton, Mo., February 27, 1943, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 7 days.
When he was four years of age his parents moved to Grundy County, Missouri, where they resided for seven years, after which they lived in Mercer County, Missouri for two years. In 1881 they moved to Sullivan county, where he has since made his home, except for four years that he lived on a farm in Linn County, Mo., and in 1943 (sic) he moved to their farm in Mercer County, Mo.
In 1922 he was selected Judge of the County Court of Sullivan County, for the Western District, serving in that capacity for two years.
He was united in marriage to Etta V. Reger, September 6, 1890. Two daughters were born to this union. Mrs. Allie Morgan, with whom he lived and was cared for in his declining years, and Cora M., who passed away June 6, 1907.
His wife having passed away March 9, 1930, he is survived by his daughter as mentioned, grandson, Ray Morgan, who lives hear the home, two great grandchildren, Etta Mae and Bobbie Ray Morgan, two brothers, Nathan A. and James of Milan, and a host of other near relatives and friends. Two brothers, William and Fred Mewmaw, preceded him in death.
Services were held at the Asbury Church, Monday, March 1, 1943 at 2:00 P.M., conducted by Rev. O.O. Hunsaker, of Galt, Mo., assisted by Rev. John P. Ingerslew of Milan.
Burial was made in Asbury cemetery.
