Earl Hope Mumaw, 84, of Edinburg, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Christ United Church of Christ in Conicville. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Thomas Arner will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
Earl was born September 13, 1931 in Shenandoah County. He was the son of the late Romanus and Annie Litten Mumaw.
He received his Associates Degree from Lord Fairfax Community College.
He retired from the United States Army with over 20 years of honorable service. Earl served in both the Korean and Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal as his highest awards.
He was a member of the Hunter Lodge Edinburg Masons. He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ.
Earl was married 47 years to his late wife, Edna Marie Tusing Mumaw.
Also preceding him in death were numerous siblings.
Earl is survived by a son, Teddy Earl Mumaw and wife Jody of Edinburg; a daughter, Brenda Marie Mumaw Weeks and husband Michael of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Kristy Bryan and husband Derek of Rolesville, N.C., Stacey Vinson and husband Brent of Moyock, N.C., Travis Mumaw and wife Sara of Edinburg, VA, and Ashlee Stroop and husband Kolter of Edinburg, VA; five great grandchildren, Addyson, Tyler, and Colin Bryan, Brady Vinson, and Anabelle Stroop; one sister, Lena Pandel; two half sisters, Ruby Miller and Elizabeth Delawder; and two half-brothers, Kenneth and James Mumaw. He is also survived by his companion, Faye Layman of Woodstock.
Pallbearers will be Charles Dellinger, Marty Helsley, David Mumaw, Jerry Gochenour, Dickie Tusing, and Melvin Tusing, Jr.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Christ United Church of Christ or any area food bank.
