EDWIN J. AHR DIES FRIDAY AFTERNOON - Livestock Dealer Is Taken By Death
Edwin J. Ahr, 62, widely known farmer and livestock dealer of Adams county, died at 3:20 p.m. Christmas Day at the Adams county memorial hospital.
Death was attributed to diabetic complications, following an extended illness.
Mr. Ahr was born in Adams county on June 6, 1880, the son of Jacob and Mary Blocher-Ahr. He was a member of the First Methodist church.
Since a youth he was one of the county's leading livestock dealers. For years he operated the Riverside sale barn and community sales with his son, Fred Ahr, of near Decatur . He also assisted in the management of the service station, operated by his wife east of the city.
He was married on September 13, 1900 to Mary Harkless. The widow, two sons, Fred and Lloyd, of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Clem of Santa Cruz, California, and Mrs. Clara Wysong of Fort Wayne; a brother, Charles of Hicksville, Ohio, survive. Four sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence and 2:30 o'clock at the First Methodist church, with Dr. M. O. Lester officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery.
The body will be returned to the residence from the Black funeral home this afternoon and may be viewed there after 7 o'clock this evening until time for the service on Monday.
