A fond farewell to Janice Mumma
--------------
To the editor:
I am writing in honor of Janice Mumma, who recently passed away. No mention was made in her obituary about her connection with the Warren Preservation Society. I knew her quite well, as I was the first president of this organization and I later served on the executive board with her, as well as befriending her through other activities.
When the preservation society was formed in 1988, Janice was one of the founding members, one of the initial directors, and since that time was active in the society, especially in the kitchen, where she served until the very recent past. Janice also served as secretary, treasurer and co-treasurer for many years, and was chairwoman of the Ways and Means Committee. In 1996 she received a community service award in recognition of her contribution to the preservation society executive board.
Beginning in or before 1997, Janice and I, plus her husband, Jim, and friend Paul Sevigny, played bridge at the senior center when it had its home under the town hall. A picture of the three of them is in Warren's 250th Anniversary book. Later, the senior center and our card game moved to Kickemuit Village. My companion, Dorothy O'Neil, joined the bridge group and became a very close friend and companion to Janice, as did several other senior citizens.
In addition to playing cards and being a loyal patron of the WPS, Janice was also engaged in basket making, which she enjoyed for many years.
She was a dear friend to many of us and a respected member of the Warren Preservation Society. Rest in Peace and God bless you, Janice Mumma.
