Raymond E. "Iggy" Mumma, 90, of 745 Chiques Hill Rd., Columbia, PA, formerly of Old Dorwart St., Lancaster, PA passed away early Saturday morning at the Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Columbia, PA, following a five month illness. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Alvin F. and Fannie S. Carr Mumma, and was the husband of the late Mary E. Schnader Mumma.
A lifelong area resident, Ray had worked for many years as a pretzel baker and cook with Red Rose Bakery, Keystone Bakery, Leroy Soft Pretzels, and Kissinger Pretzel Bakery where he retired in 1972. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters of Operations as a cook and rifleman where he received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1690, Lancaster and also the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Disabled American Veterans PA Chapter # 80 and the Active Social & Beneficial Association.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Yvonne M. Nixdorf of Willow Street and step-son Charles Fry, six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, sixteen great great grandchildren and a sister Dorothy Ressler of Hudson, FL. He was preceded in death by a son, Parke E. Mumma, four sisters, Mary, Gladys, Mae, and Laura and three brothers, Paul L., Lester K. and Bud.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Life Celebration Service from Fred F. Groff Inc., 234 W. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Wednesday at 11:30 AM with the Rev. Ron Bohannon officiating. Interment will be held at Riverview Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Groff's on Wednesday from 10:30 AM until the time of service.
