Jesse Oscar Mumma, 89, formerly of 271 Ripon St., SW, and Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in Mercy Medical Center after an extended illness. Services: 9 a.m. Saturday, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, by the Rev. Karl Glovik. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at Stewart Funeral Home, where a rosary begins at 7 p.m.
Survivors include a son, Robert and wife Mary of Marion; a daughter, Patricia Little of Overland Park, Kans.; three sisters, Grace Barbara of Woodland Hills, Calif., Dora Hooe of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Heine Shearer and husband George of San Jose, Calif.; a very special friend, Kathleen Riechle; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, a brother and two sisters.
Jesse was born Oct. 28, 1909, in Bennett, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Mary Rose Shea Mumma, and married Helen M. Hanks in West Burlington in 1935. She died April 6, 1984. Jesse worked for Charter Coaches, retiring in 1979. Jesse loved the game of baseball---he played semi pro for City Services in 1930, and coached Little League baseball from 1957 to 1965.
A memorial fund is established.
