Bertha M. Miller
Bertha M. Miller, 93, a 19 year resident at Landis Homes in Lititz, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, from complications of a head injury due to a fall two weeks earlier.
Born September 4, 1912 in Landisville, to Harry S. and Lizzy B. Mumma, Bertha, married Paul M. Miller, on May 14, 1938. They farmed near Bainbridge until moving to Goshen, Ind. in 1946. She partnered with her husband to plant the East Goshen Mennonite Church. After returning to school to receive her teaching degree in 1966, she taught at various elementary schools until her retirement and move to Pennsylvania in 1985.
Bertha was a vivacious woman who enjoyed life to the fullest, including her teaching career, her extensive volunteer work, and her avid reading. She was a lifelong, deeply faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and member of the Mennonite Church, most recently at Akron Mennonite Church. She had been active in teaching Sunday school, in visitation, and in supporting her husband in his extensive church work over the years, both nationally and internationally.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1998; her brother, Clyde Mumma; and her sister, Ethel Rohrer.
She is survived by her four children: Rebecca, married to Victor Fast, from London, Ontario, John, married to Marcia Smucker Miller, from Detroit, Mich., James, married to Debra Fisher Miller, from Marietta, and Rosemary, married to Tom Fitzsimmons, from San Francisco, Calif.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A public viewing will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 18 at the Landis Homes Bethany East Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, PA. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 19, at Landis Homes Bethany West Chapel.
