Much of the early information in Samuel Hertzler Mumma's book is in error, especially for the Frederick Mumma family which was listed starting on notebook page 81. Apparently Dr. Charles Rife, an eye doctor born about 1900, was the person who contributed much of the information about this family. His speculation about the 1st 3 generations about this family are wrong.
Samuel lists his birth as 1772 and death as 1807. These dates seem to be in error and conflict with census information. The census suggests a birth for both Frederick and Barbara as 1785-1794 and 1775-1794. Considering the ages of the children a birth after 1885 is highly unlikely and this census appears to be in error. Their likely birth dates were around 1775-1780

Frederick's death date is determined from the fact he is listed in the 1823 tax lists, but the "heirs of Frederick Mumma" appear in the 1826 tax list.
