WILLIAM MUMMA OBITUARY
Everywhere Bill Mumma went, someone would recognize him and greet the longtime Mechanicsburg jeweler with pleasure. Sadly, William (Bill) Fred Mumma, 87, former owner of the 100-year-old Mummas Jewelry Store founded by his father, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2022. Both father and son have contributed generously to the happiness and life of the community. Bill, would say Imagine the pleasure of going to work every day in a place where almost everyone who comes through the door wants to make someone happy. Bill was a member of the Mechanicsburg Club and its treasurer for over 25 years. He was a 50-year member of Eureka-West Shore Lodge #302 Free and Accepted Masons, a 50-year member Samuel C. Perkins Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, and Harrisburg Council #7 Royal and Select Master Masons. He also was a member of the Mechanicsburg Businessmens League, Downtown Association, Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce, Mechanicsburg VFW Post 6704, the Mechanicsburg American Legion Post 109, West Shore Elks Lodge #2257, Washington Fire Company, historic Union Church, and St. Mark Lutheran Church. A graduate of Mechanicsburg High School Class of 1953, he served in the Pennsylvania Air Guard for six years at Olmstead Air Force Base. Bill was a long-time volunteer with the Democratic Party in Cumberland County. Several years ago, the Cumberland County Commissioners recognized him for never having missed voting in any election during his adult years. Bill is survived by his sister Grace Mumma McQuade of Moon Township, PA, a brother Ralph O. Mumma of State College, PA, as well as many loving, cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg with visitation held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. A private interment will be held at St. Johns Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 117 West Keller Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
