Note: The father of Elias Mumah is unknown at this time. The results of the DNA tests that I conducted have shown that Elias is not a descendant of immigrant Peter Mumma as suggested by Sandra Mumah. The DNA results suggest that he is likely a descendant of immigrant Jacob Mumma. Sandra has a copy of the marriage certificate of Elias Mumah and Barbara Huffman. "Mumah" is the way the name was spelled on the certificate. It states that they were from East Donegal, Lancaster County. In the Michigan death records, Elias' parents names are listed as John and May. I highly doubt that her name was May as that was a very uncommon name used in Lancaster County. I suspect her name was "Mary" and simply recorded as May in error.
Lived in Lancaster Co., PA until about 1856 when they moved with Barbara's parents, the Huffmans, to Clark Co., OH In 1858, they moved to Darke Co., OH.
Elias enlisted as a Private in Company F, 94th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on 31 July 1862 and served under Lt. William D. Purviance. He was discharged at the end of the war in Washington, D.C. on 5 June 1865. He remained in Darke County until about 1885 when he moved his family to Sand Lake, Kent Co., MI where he died and is buried.
