Lt. Col. David L.B. GearingF, Ret.
David, 78, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 13, 2003. He was born in Dayton, Ohio. He lived and worked in Massachusetts, where he was president and CEO of a retail fuel oil business. He retired and moved to Rancho Bernardo in 1986.
A veteran of World War II, David flew 65 combat missions as bombardier-navigator. He was recalled to extended active duty in 1961 and served in France as personnel staff officer.
He was a member of the Elks, the Masons, the Exchange Club, the American Legion, and the PALS of Assistance League of Inland North County. He enjoyed his ham radio, his computer, and the many happy years spent boating with his wife and friends in Florida, the Virgin Islands and Cape Cod.
David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean; his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Gary Stalians of Escondido; his son, Christopher Gearing of Stuart, Fla.; his sister, Eloise Rhoads of Vincennes, Ind.; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private services are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in David's name be made to Assistance League of Inland North County, PO Box 3185, Escondido, CA 92033.
