David L. Thomas Sr., 75, of Main Street, Conyngham, passed away Monday afternoon at his home.
Born in West Hazleton on July 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Martha (Griffith) Thomas Sr. and had lived most of his life in Conyngham.
David was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Conyngham.
He was the proprietor of Thomas Refuse Service from 1960 until his retirement in 2003.
A veteran of the Korean War, David served in the Army and was a member of the Valley Vets VFW Post 8161, Conyngham.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and horses.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joan Mumaw, who passed away March 19, 2003; a brother, Robert Jr.; a sister, Edith Roberts; and an infant brother, Llewellyn.
Surviving are children, JoAnn Burger and her husband, Leonard Jr., Drums; David L. Jr. and his wife, Charlotte, Sugarloaf; Robert L., Conyngham; Gale Thomas Spaniel and her husband, Joseph, Conyngham; Lynelle Gombeda, Pinellas Park, Fla.; James and his wife ,Wendy, Conyngham; and Richard, Ocala, Fla.; grandchildren, Jolene, Leonard III, and Timothy Burger; David III, Ashley and Ethan Thomas; Joseph Gombeda, serving with the Army in Iraq; and Paige and Taylor Thomas; sisters, Dorothy Phile and her husband, Charles, Mountain Grove; Kathleen Flaim and her husband, Carl, Conyngham; and Barbara Sloane and her husband, Neil, Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from Harman Funeral Homes and Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. His pastor, the Rev. William W. Fairchild, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Mountain Grove.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
