Virginia E. Strathmann
Virginia E. Strathmann, 86, of North Sewickley Township, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 while under the compassionate care of the staff at St. John Lutheran Care Center, Mars.
She was born January 2, 1923 in Rocky Ford, Colorado, daughter of the late Orla Vernid and Hazel May (Olin) Mummaugh. Virginia was employed as a civil servant and worked as a secretary in the Air Force.
Her family was her life; and she adored her grandchildren. Virginia also held a special place in her heart for her cats, dogs and birds.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Strathmann, Jr.; infant grandson, John Strathmann; two brothers, Leonard and David Mummaugh; her sister, Jean Elliott, and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Strathmann.
Virginia is survived by two sons, Frederick Strathmann, III of Warren, OH, and Robert Strathmann, Folsom, CA; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Donna and Rory Jinar, Virginia Beach, VA; Rebecca Cater, Bridgewater; Margie and Tom Swick, Ellwood City; Janet and Richard Triance, North Sewickley Township, and Cheryl and Howard Sobotka, Scranton, PA; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the funeral home with the Reverend Michael Coleman, Edgewood Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
