  Benjamin died at 43 years of age in Arkona, leaving young children. Katherine the mother lived on, but Benjamin's uncle - "old Michael", his wife, Sarah and family came to Arkona to help raise the young family. They lived in a log cabin on the 4th line, now Birnham Line back in the woods. It was the property where Joseph and Rachel (Bearss) would later build. Kathryn Cassels (of this database) has a photocopy of a sketch of the original farm house of Joseph and Rachel's done by a commercial artist who lived in this house as a child in the early 1930's and as he remembers it. It was a brick house built by Joseph, Con. 5, Lot 24 near Arkona where his family was born and raised. The 100 acres was homesteaded by his parents and family beginning in 1852. It was owned by the Muma family until 1997 except for approximately 15 years from 1902 to 1917, a total of 130 years in the Muma name.
