The following is from a pamplet compiled by J.H. Beers & Co.,
Toronto, in 1905...........Commemorative biographical record of
prominent Citizens of Lambton County.......Nicolaus Sitter
Nicholas Sitter, the father of our subject (George), was a
native of France, born there in 1818, and there received his
education, mostly in German. After locating in Rainham
Township, he, with his brothers, assisted his father in
clearing a home. He married Catherine Fess, also a native of
Alsace, France, daughter of Soloman Fess, who came to Canada
about the same time Mr. Sitter did. Nicholas and Catherine
(Fess) Sitter were the parents of David, a resident of Forest
Ont., who married Hannah Mumma; Anne, who married William
Mumma; Peter, of Sarnia Township, who married Matilda
Chriestler; George our subject; Nicholas, who died in Warwick
Township, and who married Cinderella Lampman, and Barbara, who
married Isaac Burse, of Arkona. In the latter forties (1840's)
the family sold out their holdings in the county of Haldimand,
and located in the county of Lambton, purchasing a tract of 100
acres of land on lot 21, concession 5, of Warwick Township, and
there settled down to claim a home from the wilderness.There
the remainder of Nicholas Sitter's life was spent. He also
purchased 100 acres of land near Bethel, Warwick Township. He
lived to the ripe old age of eighty four years, dying in 1902,
and was buried in the Mennonite cemetary, in which faith he
died. His wife died in 1879 on the farm, and was buried in the
same cemetary.
Nicolaus is listed in the 1861 census living in Rainham Twp.,
Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada
