Notes:
Alma Sarah Warner Anker indicates Sally(Sallie, Sarah) Safford
as having been born in Bennington, VT, not NY. But 1850 US
Census indicates birth in NY. Subsequent information by Alma
Warner shows birth at Salem, NY in 1809 or 1801. The boundaries
between NY and VT were in dispute in the early years so some of
the records of Washington County, NY can be found in VT and some
of the early VT records can be found in NY. The final
boundaries were settled by the Congress after the War of
Independence. Charlotte County, which encompassed VT is later
became Washington County, NY.
On her death, per personal notes of Alma Sarah Warner Anker:
"She was thrown out of a buggy while riding with her daughter
and son-in-law, struck on her head and died about three weeks
afterward. She was sixty four years old and her son, Dewitt in
writing of her death, speaks of her as old and feeble. She had
had poor health for a number of years. Married at sixteen(?),
mother of seven, and living under pioneer conditions part of the
time and with no conveniences, probably she was old long before
she was (fifty-five). Her daughter-in-law speaks of her as a
very sweet and loveable woman.
