Son of John and Hannah (Beemer) Muma.
John and his family were living in the Drumbo area when he was offered work building a railroad in Indiana. John and his wife, with their two children, moved to Indiana and John went to work building the railroad. John was in charge of the work gang (men and horses). One night their horses were stolen. John and the men pursued the thieves and eventually caught them. During the fight John was wounded (seriously). They recovered the horses and John made it home to his wife Hannah where he died as a result of the injury he received during the fight.
He is buried in Chesterton, Indiana.

Obituary:
John William Muma, whose funeral services took place from the home on West Fenton Street last Friday afternoon, had lived to a ripe old age. Had he lived until December 9th next, he would have been 84 years of age. He came to Union City 27 years ago and engaged in the coal business. Later he worked for the Buell Lumber company and was known to most every resident of the city.
In 1918, Mr. Muma was married to Mrs. Francelia Stevens, widow of the late George J. Stevens. About three years ago he retired from actual business life. He enjoyed good health, however, until last June when a heart attack gave him and others a warning that the end of life was not far ahead. About ten days ago he took to his bed where death came at 1:00 am on Wednesday, November 4th.
By a former marriage, Mr. Muma became the father of fourteen children, three of whom preceded him in death. A sister, Mrs. Sada Darling, of Flint, also survived.
Those present at the funeral from out-of-town were his son, James Muma, of Daggett, Michigan; Mrs. Mark R. Smith of Kittaning, Pennsylvania; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pritchard, Mrs. John Cook, Stewart Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Granger and son, Dale, Mrs. Earl Randall and Mrs. Mae Corbus of Tekonsha; Mrs. J. F. Meyer of Macon, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stevens of Burlington; and Mrs. Ida Sutherland, of Marshall.
