Hooke, Lewis J. (m. Lucy Ann Moomaw) IN 77 1918 366
Hooke, Bro. Lewis J., born in Rockingham County, Va., July 17, 1840, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anna Mann, Muncie, Ind., May 15, 1918, aged 77 years, 9 months and 28 days. Bro.Hooke's father died when he was about six years old. His mother broke up housekeeping and he was brought up by Mrs. Catherine Huffman. June 12, 1866, he married Sister Lucy Ann, daughter of Bro. Joseph and Sister Mary Moomaw. Leaving Virginia and August they emigrated to Logan Co., OH, near Degraff. He was employed there as a miller. Oct. 29, 1873, he moved to Delaware Co., IN. He united with the Church of the Brethren June 1, 1885, and in November, 1886, was called to the deacon's office. He was his family moved to Muncie, Indiana, Dec. 13, 1904. Bro. Hooke as been affiliated with several lines of church work and was widely known over the Brotherhood. Brother and Sister Hooke's home was blessed with nine [?] children, one being the wife of Eld. W. Carl Rarick. His wife was called home in 1913. In 1915 he united in marriage with Mrs. Mary Baker, of Muncie Indiana. She, with a four daughters, three sons and 12 grandchildren, survives. Services in the Rev. church, Muncie IN by the writer, assisted by Bro. J. W. Rarick. Interment in Buck Grove cemetery.
