[Harrisburg Telegraph - Thursday, May 4, 1882]
The Late John Mumma
--------------------------------
John Mumma, whose sudden death has been announced in the Telegraph, resided 75 years at the place where he died, one mile this side of Shoop's church, his parents having removed there when he was three years old. During a period of sixty years he was a member of Shoop's church, and held office therein repeatedly, being a trustee at time of his death. His funeral, on Tuesday morning, was one of the largest that has taken place in that vicinity, there having been 103 conveyances at the house and 30 additional at the church. The sermon was preached by Rev. S. Dasher, the pastor. The pall-bearers were William Trullingher, Christian Bowman, Samuel Mahan, John Garman, William Haverstick and Solomon Nisley. Deceased leaves two living children, David M. Mumma, of Harrisburg, and Jacob Mumma of Lower Paxton; also seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. David Cassell, of Lower Paxton, and his youngest brother, David Mumma. Esq., of this city , are the only surviving members of the family of the deceased's parents.
