John was then adopted as John Alton Calaman by Ella's maternal aunt and her husband, Maud Brightbill Mumma and William H. Calaman. Ella Jane later remarried with John Isaac Biesel, while Harrison remained a bachelor. John Alton sometimes quipped that he had been an only child to five parents.
