The story behind her name as told by her father: The name came from a girlfriend he never had but remembers completely. It was seventh grade and she was beautiful beyond compare, he knew he would never be her boyfriend. The family was moving again and one of his friend (unknown exactly how) got several people to sign a yearbook for Jer. One special person was Yolanda. She first signed it "Yogi" and when the friend relayed that Jer did not like it when she was referred to as "Yogi", she signed Yolanda.
