Notes:
Norma Jean Mumma, 84, originally from Duncannon, PA, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 in Charlottesville, VA. She was born on May 26, 1934, to the late Idella and G. Wilmont Sweger in Newport, PA.
Norma was a very loving person who enjoyed life and looked to find the best in others. She attended Duncannon Joint High School and graduated in May of 1952. Her heart?s desire after graduating was to attend Art School, but then she met the love of her life, John Mumma, Jr. from Halifax, got married in 1953 and started a family. These events changed her plans about attending Art School.
John and Norma had three children, the oldest was Debbie, next was Diane, who died just hours after she was born, and then David. While the children were young, the family started to attend the Roseglen United Methodist Church. Norma became involved in working with the church choir, playing the piano for some services, making costumes and drawings for church events and even directing some of the plays the church did at Christmas and Easter.
Norma enjoyed drawing, painting, sewing, doing ceramics, traveling, gardening, playing the piano, and working with plants and flowers, which was evident from the beautiful plants and flowers she had inside her home or in the flower beds around her home. Her appreciation for plants and flowers opened the way for her to work at a Duncannon flower shop for a brief time many years ago.
Later in life after the children were grown up, John and Norma would travel regularly to various places of interest and return with many pictures and memories. On occasion, John and Norma would travel with another married couple that lived in the community to go on sightseeing tours together.
Norma is survived by her loving son David Mumma. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John Mumma, Jr., her daughter Debbie Mumma, and infant daughter Diane Mumma.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at the Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High Street, Duncannon, PA. Visitation is between 10 and 11 AM. Burial will follow the service at Long?s cemetery in Halifax, PA.
