Ann grew up in Birmingham and in Tarrant, just outside of Birmingham. She accumulated a lot of photographs of her years growing up, and she seemed to always have a lot of friends. She graduated from Jefferson County High School and went to Grady School of Nursing at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. After graduation, she returned to Birmingham and worked in the newborn nursery. She had all kinds of pictures of babies that parents gave her as a remembrance for taking care of their newborns.

In the summer of 1945 she met an army man, Sanford "Lee" Morris, at a USO picnic in Anniston, Alabama. In November of that year they were married at the Third Presbyterian Church in Birmingham. Her only child, Lee, was born in December of 1946. Ann called her husband "Big Lee" and her son "Lee Irvin." Big Lee and Ann were married for almost ten years until they divorced in 1955.

After the divorce, Ann and Lee Irvin moved to Memphis because Ann's sister Margaret and her husband were living there. Ann worked at Southwestern College (now Rhodes College) as a nurse in the infirmary. In the early 1960s, Sanford moved to Memphis also.

After Lee Irvin was discharged from the Navy in 1969, Ann moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where her son Lee had married and settled. Ann lived in an apartment on Lynwood Drive in Montgomery until the 1990s, when she became too frail to take care of herself. She died at the Crown Health Care Nursing Home in Montgomery in 1996. She was cremated and buried in the family plot in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Birmingham.
