Monte J. "Jerry" Sweigard, 84, of Marysville, formerly of Campbelltown, PA, passed away Wednesday, April 11th, 2012 in Harrisburg Hospital.
Monte was born in Harrisburg, on May 30, 1927, the son of the late Dr. Melvin LeRoy and Mildred C. (Reitzel) Sweigard. He was the retired Postmaster of Palmyra, PA, with over 30 years in the U. S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, serving as a gunners mate on the USS Navarro at Okinawa, Japan.
Jerry was a life member of the Campbelltown Fire Co; Member of The Glenvale Church of God, Marysville, The Campbelltown American Legion, Palmyra VFW, Perry Lodge # 458, F & AM, Marysville, A 32nd degree Mason, Harrisburg Consistory, Scottish Rite, and Zembo Temple.
Surviving are: His Wife: Linda J. Jamison, two daughters, Juliann Repa, Harrisburg, Sandra Lee Sweigard, New York, NY, two sons: Eric Jerome Sweigard, Palmyra, Michael Vale Sweigard, Harrisburg, a step daughter, Sandi J. Boozle, Mifflintown, a sister, Joanne C. Zimmerman, Winston-Salem, NC. He is also survived by three grandchildren, two step grandchildren and five great grandchildren, one niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Mumma Sweigard; Also a sister, Patricia Ann Sweigard, two brothers, Melvin Sweigard and Richard Sweigard.
Masonic services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, followed by Memorial Services in the Glenvale Church of God, Marysville, with Pastor Larry Hale and Pastor Rick Martin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday in the church. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Michael J. Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville.
