Notes:
The existence of David comes from Margaret Dieringer's Newsletter, Volume 1, #2, page 7, she wrote the following:
---------------------------------
I have copies of two handwritten sheets from the files of the Lancaster County Mennonite Historical Society, Lancaster. It is not clear who wrote them:
"
Copied Aug 1856 from a small book Uncle John Mumma has --
Family records of grandfather and his offsprings to the present time. Frederick Mumma was born in Germany, came to America young, died February 8, 1814 and was 84 years of age. His wife, Fronica, her maiden name was Nolt, died in 1807. They had nine children - John, Elizabeth, Jacob, Aney (Amy), Christian, Barbara, Jonas, David, and Mary. These came to maturity.

There is a David Mumma in Lancaster County who was unmarried and got into a lot of real estate wheeling and dealing between 1813 and 1815. There are at least 10 recorded and unrecorded deeds involving this David for lots and a tavern in what is today Marietta. It strikes me that this is about the time that Frederick Mumma died, and that David may have come into some money. By 1816 he was bankrupt and it all went into a Sheriff's sale forced by the Marietta and Susquehanna Trading Company. This organization later had an unfortunate collapse of its own due to some bad business practices and/or outright fraud.
I know that he was unmarried because the deeds naming him as grantor do not include a wife. Also, the final deed in the Sheriff's sale described him as "late of Lancaster county."
