His obituary:
Roswell Stains, a former resident of New Grenada, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Strait of Harrisonville on November 11, 1945. He had been in ill health since August 23 and underwent an operation for glandular trouble in the Sipes Hospital, Everett, but showed little improvement. He went to his daughter's home on October 1 and was bedfast until his death. Mr. Stains was the last survivor of his immediate family. He was aged 75 years, one month and 14 days at the time of death. He was laid to rest in New Grenada Cemetery where his wife, Sarah Crider Stains, was buried three years ago. Surviving are four daughters and two sons: Goldie Mae (Mrs. William Ritchey), Waterfall R.D., Mary Catharine (Mrs. Joseph Strait) Harrisonville; Edna Gladys (Mrs. Clarence Watkins), Robertsdale R.D.; Hazel Rebecca (Mrs. Seibert Barnett) Waterfall; Robert Jacob Stains, Chambersburg; John William Stains, Mount Union. Also surviving are 35 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren and one great-grand-child are deceased."
