In this census, James is single and living with another family as servant and as a laborer in the saw mill. The head of the house, Joshua Hawthorn, was a "lumberman". What is unusual is one of his children is named "Ai R. Hawthorn" age 20. This is the same name that James' brother, William named one of his children in 1907.

James Miller Mumma passed away at his home in Curwensville, Clearfield County, Saturday, November 26, 1938, from a heart attack. Mr. Mumma was born in Licking Creek Township, Fulton County, September 9, 1868, thus he was aged 70 years, 2 months, and 17 days. He was the son of George W. and Sara A. Mumma, deceased. He is survived by his wife, Edna, and a foster daughter, Mary E. Bowman. Also, two brothers, namely, Harry and John, both of Laidig, Fulton County. About 50 years ago he went to Clearfield County where he made his home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov 29, 1938, at the home on Ridge Avenue in charge of Rev. Paul Dale. Interment was made in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Curwensville.
