Marion's Memorial by brother Harold Mumma
------------------------------------------------
Since most of you present are either family members or old friends, you already know Marion and her loving attitude, her caring for people, her joyful, you can't get me down approach to life, and of her devotion to her husband and children. Family, I guess I should say because I want to include her grandchildren as well. As long as I have known Marion, and that is nearly all of her life (I am younger than her), she has managed to sustain a perky, happy, attitude no matter the situation. The folks in the care home she was recently in will attest to that. Nobody, I am told, ever managed to become so popular and sought after in so short a time as she. Its' her manner and attitude that won people.
The thing I have thought about so many times is that my sisters in the main were and are GIVERS. Marion was a GIVER in a world so often made up of TAKERS. Marion was far from greedy, she was not a complainer, and she would do whatever she could to spread some joy into any life she came in contact with. She loved to sing and had a charming voice but the big thing about her singing was she could naturally harmonize with any one willing to sing with her. Sister Dorothy and Marion did the supper dishes for mother every night and together sang popular songs of the day while they worked. Marion always in harmony while Dorothy sang lead, sounded pretty good too. Singing lead is
the easy part and most identifiable part of the music, but Marion didn't mind. She just enjoyed the end result. Being able to harmonize is a
wonderful gift. It carries over into life I think and harmony in life helps keep people happy. I never knew people to be miserable or unhappy around Marion very long. She would find a way to smooth out almost any situation.
Not much more need be added by me to describe a thoroughly honest and happy soul as Marion. As I said before, generally all of my sisters were and are GIVING people but none of them could sing harmony, only MARION, A BEAUTIFUL PERSON WHO IS MISSED.
