Sarah Marie Moomau
Sarah Marie Moomau, 93, died Friday, June 2, in Altus. Services are 3 p.m. Monday at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Mrs. Moomau was the fourth child of James R. and Bessie McGee Evans, born June 22, 1912, near Carnegie. She graduated from Carnegie High School and Southwestern Oklahoma State Teachers College in Weatherford with a degree in education. After teaching a few years in Carnegie, she moved to Oklahoma City where she became a bookkeeper for Allen's Shoe Store. She married James P. Moomau Nov. 28, 1934. They moved to Norman in 1940 where they both worked in what became their family business, Moomau's Shoes. They also owned shoe stores in Shawnee, Okmulgee and Longview, Texas. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Norman. She participated in DAR, the Presbyterian Women's Association, Coterie Book Club of Norman, sewing and garden clubs as well as serving as a vice president and bookkeeper of their family shoe stores. She enjoyed sewing, painting, crocheting, reading, and traveling with her husband.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses James E. and Shirlee Moomau of Advance, N.C.; Robert W. and Joyce Moomau of Longview, Texas; Jane Moomau Doughty and Paul Doughty of Altus; 10 grandchildren Steve Moomau of Coppell, Texas, Susan Wallace of Oklahoma City, Jenna Moomau of Longview, James Barnhill of Longview, Steve Wilson of Houston, Kendall Doughty of Norman, Shelby Woods of Norman, Kevin Rogers of Holly Springs, N.C., Kathy Perry of Indianapolis and Mark Rogers of Dunkirk, Ind; 13 great-grandchildren.
